he is so warmly attached. He returned to Indiana, and purchased a half interest in the Leader, at Princeton, the county seat of Gibson, a thriving city and capital of the best county in the state, in September 1890, where he has been ever since.
Last May, the 24th, he went to the far-famed county of Posey, next to Gibson the best in the state, and was married in Mt. Vernon to Miss Mary Lewis of Poseyville. Mr. Carlisle feels warmly towards Norton and writes: "My advice to all my old friends is to stick to Norton, vote the republican ticket, and you will live long and die happy." John Case was born at Mansfield, New York, February 22, 1834. He commenced teaching school at sixteen years of age at Napoli, New York and taught for two years. At eighteen years of age he crossed the plains to California and lived at different times in the territories and followed mining. He conducted a livery barn in Los Angeles, California, for two years, and in 1856 went from there to the Sandwich Islands, where he and his brother, Sidney, followed painting for two years in the city of Honolulu; he was afterward superintendent of a sugar plantation for two years. From there he came back to the mines in Nevada and afterward made a trip to South America and lived in the republic of Chili. After an absence of eighteen years he returned to his old home in New York  state and in 1871
he was married to Loretta Helms.
In 1873 he moved to Furnas county, Nebraska, near Hanback where he resided until 1877.
He then moved to Norton and built the first furniture store built here. The same building is now occupied by Wright Bros. as a store.
Mr. Case was born at Cold Springs, New York in 1853, and died at East Randolph, New
York, April 7, 1892.Four children were born to them, their eldest, Jay D., was born October 12, 1872, was married June 15, 1892 to Agnes E. Machall, they have one child, a boy one year old, they live at Sawyer City, Pennsylvania, at this time, and he is engaged in the mercantile business. |
