1878. Their eldest son, John, returned to Iowa in 1885. He now lives at Savannah, Illinois. Mike, their second son, is in California. Peter, their third son, lives at Clinton, lowa. Rose, their eldest daughter, married F. M. Lockard. Nettie, their youngest child, married H. M. Thompson and lives at Colorado City.

Oliver Jones came to Norton county, Kansas, in the spring of 1876 and took a homestead on the Prairie Dog, adjoining Norton on the west, which he sold to the Rock Island rail road company in the spring of 1888; he then moved into town and built a livery barn on the west side and has continued in that business since. His wife died in June 1891; they had five children who are all married. Their eldest son William, married Amanda Gettys; they live in Wyoming. Frank married Sarah Miller; they have one child. Frank lives in Norton and is engaged in the livery business with his father. Their eldest daughter, Rose, married Gross Page. Their youngest daughter Anna, was married November 11, 1884 to N. L. Johnson. He was born November 25, 1854 in Shelby county, Indiana; moved to Kansas with his parents in March 1870, settled in Leavenworth county. He went to Colorado in 1877 and lived there three years; from there he moved to Norton county, Kansas, arriving here February 22, 1879; homesteaded land five miles northeast of Norton, went into the creamery business in 1881, opened up a stock of furniture in 1883, and put in a lumber yard in 1884; sold out the furniture to Wright Bros. in 1885 and quit the lumber yard in 1887. He was elected county treasurer in 1889 and re-elected in 1891; he is at this time cashier of the Norton County State bank and chairman of the republican county central committee. They have three children, Harry A.; Mina Ray and Gertru (not Gertrude).

Charley Jones, Oliver's youngest son, married Emma Ames. He lives on a farm east of town.

John Wallace was born in Jefferson county, Indiana, July 7, 1827; was raised on a farm. He had superior advantages in the common schools but never attended college. At 19 years of age he went to the trade of mill wright and he says he has been learning ever since. He was married December 17, 1846 to Minerva E. Duffy the fruits of that union were three children, but none of them ever came to Kansas; he lost his wife in the early fifties and on September 21, 1854 was married to Retta A. Lawler, his present wife; from this marriage they had nine children, seven of them still living. Allen Hale, their eldest son was born January 10, 1859; was married to Gusta Zastro February 21, 1890, they had one child, Geneva, born December 1891, died August 1893. He is at the present time running the Almena mill of which he is owner. He is active as a prohibitionist. That party nominated him for clerk of the court in 1892 and county clerk in 1893.

Charles C. Wallace was born November 17, 1860. He married Miss Elizabeth Deitz. They had two children. He died at Norton March 5, 1894.

James Lincoln Wallace was born November 25, 1862. He was married to Nelie McCrea November 25, 1886. They have two children; Enid and Herold. He was elected county clerk in 1885 and 1887. He took a course at the state university at Lincoln, Nebraska, after which he returned to Norton where he was admitted to the bar in 1893. He is at the present time located in Cripple Creek, Colorado, where he is making a success of his profession.

Anna G. was born August 10, 1865, was married to Dr. Simon Steelsmith March 4, 1893. Anna was a teacher in our public schools for several years. She resid [sic] at Abilene, Kansas, at this time. They have one child, born April 4, 1894.
