Orpha A. was married to O. F. Milner November 29, 1876, at Blue Hill, Nebraska.
Nellie M. was married to Thomas Johnson, January 1, 1885, at Norton, Kansas.
Lena E. was married to Edward L. Bennett November 9, 1887, at Norton, Kansas.
Hattie and Orla are still at home with their parents. Oran F. Milner was born in Ohio in 1861. Thomas Johnson was born in Brown county. Illinois, September 16, 1859. Edward L. Bennett was born in Tuscara county, Ohio, December 12, 1863; Orpha A. was born in Kalamazoo county, Michigan, August 3, 1859. Carey was born in Kalamazoo county, Michigan. November 23, 1861; Nellie M. was born May 2, 1867 in Macon county, Missouri; Lena E was born March 22, 1870 in Macon county, Missouri; Hattie E. was born March 31, 1873 in Macon county, Missouri; Ora E. was born May 28,1877, in Webster county, Nebraska. He came to this county in 1879, bought the Dey Smith farm two and one half miles east of Norton, where he lived four years when he moved in the city for educational advantages for his children. He served as deputy county treasurer under Dr. Little and Ed I. Jones and afterward was elected county treasurer taking posession [sic] of the office in October 1886; he served two terms. He has always been a republican in politics, is a member of the M. E. church, and believes the social, religious and material prospects of the county and state of his adoption as good as any of the states he ever lived in. 
George W. Shook was born November 3, 1862 at Davenport, Iowa; moved with his parents to Floyd county, Iowa, in 1868 and in 1878 they came to Osborne county, Kansas where his father engaged in agricultural and nursery business.
He attended county school several years and then his father bought a quarter section of land adjoining the townsite, when the Central Branch came through that county, and laid off five different additions to the city of Downs and built himself a fine residence there.
George learned the printer's trade in the office of the Downs Times, and attended the Downs high school from which he graduated with honors in the summer of 1884.
That winter he came to Norton county and taught a term of school in what is now known as the Garber district, in the Colony northwest of Norton.
The next spring he was hired to teach in the district adjoining. He taught one term there, one half of which was held in the sod church and the balance of the term in the new frame church which was just built.
In July he returned to Downs and took up work again in the printing office.
In July he came back to Norton county and did a wise thing by marrying a Norton county girl, Miss Lucy Joseph, whose parents still live in the Colony.
She was born in Elkhart, Iowa, June 20, 1866, and with her parents moved on Sand creek near Edmond in 1879.
