I am doing genealogical research for my great grandfather, Charles Edward Tappana, who married a Nancy Day of Cass County MO sometime before May 1860. She died in Spring Hill KS of smallpox in Feb. 1863. We have never been able to locate her grave in that area.

Alice Elizabeth Burke (b Ireland, d Miami, OK) m 1st at Wea Mission to Mark Paschal (part French, part Osage indian), one child: Mollie Paschal.

Alice Elizabeth Burke Paschal m 2nd Thomas Doherty (b County Roscommon, Ireland, d 1890's Paola, bur Paola Cemetery), 5 children: Ellen Doherty (m - Papst), Willam Doherty, Edd Doherty, James Doherty, John Doherty.

Thomas Doherty came to Miami County, KS, from County Roscommon, Ireland, with his brothers Martin Doherty, Michael Doherty, Edward Doherty, and sister Anna Doherty. They came to the United States on a freighter, landing in New Orleans, then moving to Wesport, MO, before coming to the Wea Mission.

Mark Paschal died of a fever while on a hunting trip. In the late 1880's, Alice Elizabeth Burke Paschal Doherty moved to OK to live on land given to her daughter Mollie Paschal in settlement of her claim to a headright. In the winter she became ill and died. Her son John Doherty was raised by Anna Doherty Schwartz and William Schwartz.
