Query: I'm seeking information on family members buried in Miami County. First, John M. Smith ( 518-V3, 519-V3), buried (I believe) in the Cadmus Cemetery. His wife was Nancy M. (Scott) Smith may also be buried in this cemetery. Also, Robert A. Taylor (84-V2, 132-V2, 283-V3), I believe he is buried in the Louisburg cemetary. Robert A. Response: The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. I, page 275, in a story about the James and Margaret (BRIDGES) MORGAN family, it says:

"James Marion MORGAN was born February 25, 1833, in Shelby County, Illinois, died September 12, 1915, Paola, Miami County, Kansas, married August 14, 1850, in Shelby County, to Margaret "Peggy" BRIDGES, daughter of Joseph and Eunice (CLAWSON) BRIDGES, born April 2, 1833, in Illinois, died of smallpox in Louisburg, June 22, 1882. Both are buried in Louisburg cemetery, Miami County, Kansas.

James Marion grew to manhood at the home of his parents, William and Nancy (EDWARDS) MORGAN, and learned the trade of wheel-wright and blacksmith in his father's shop. In 1869, his health began to fail, and in company with his son, John James, his brother, Perry, and a cousin, William "Hop" MORGAN, he started West in a wagon, going through the Ozark Mountains to southern Missouri, and finally coming north to locate at Louisburg, which was then known as New St. Louis. Mr. MORGAN settled on a farm four miles west of that town and returned to Illinois after his family. Within a year, he had completely recovered his health, and he gave up farming to move to Louisburg, where he started a blacksmith shop, which he conducted for forty-three years, doing the heavy shop work until he reached his eightieth year, when he retired.

Ten children were born to this union:
-- John James, born March 31, 1852, married Lavinia RUSSELL, January 9, 1871, died January 20, 1932, buried in Hodges cemetery;

-- Eunice Elizabeth, born 1855, married William A. JOHNSON, April 2, 1875, died April 7, 1933 in Independence, Missouri;
-- Nancy Jane, born 1858, married William JOHNSON, November 8, 1876, he died on January 14, 1888, she married George W. TUCKER, died in Gridley, Kansas, October 11, 1894, buried in Louisburg cemetery;
-- Mary Ann, born June 10, 1859, married James A. SMITH March 16, 1881, died September 27, 1930 in Harrisonville, Missouri, buried in Louisburg cemetery;
-- Sarah Catherine, born January 10, 1863, married Henry T. COOK, July 28, 1883, died in Osawatomie, December 6, 1891, buried in Louisburg cemetery;
-- Martha Salome, born July 15, 1865, married William L. ABNEY, December 25, 1881, died May 6, 1944, in Olathe, Kansas, buried in Paola cemetery;

-- Josephine Susan, born 1868, married BEMENT, died July 5, 1904, buried in Louisburg cemetery;
-- Rosella Mae "Chattie" born September 16, 1871, married James W. RING, January 1, 1890, died February 16, 1941, buried in Louisburg cemetery.

After the death of Margaret, James Marion married Martha HYATT on February 7, 1884. She died and then he married Mary RICHARDSON, November 20, 1889. This marriage ended in divorce in 1913.

Mr. MORGAN was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Louisburg, an organization in which he had always taken an active interest. James and Margaret were members of the Christian Church in Louisburg. ... submitted by Terry Grant"

The 1878 Miami County, Kansas, Residents and Taxpayers, published by the Miami County Genealogy Society did not have any entries for George LAYMON. There was a George LAYMAN. While scanning the map looking for George, I noticed a property of Mrs. M.J.
