Query: In Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas, Edward Hill, page 200, volume 1, I am looking for Edward Hill born about 1849 he arrived in Kansas about 1873. I believe his home and farm was destroyed about 1875 at this time it says he had 2 adults and 2 children under age 12 in the home. I do not have any other names for the family members. In fact this is all the information I have on him. Any and all your help is very appreciated. ... I am eager to learn all I can about my GG Grandfather. ... Also Page 212, David Hill

Amy Chiara-Allen Aims052@aol.com

Response: The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. I, published by the Miami County Historical Society and the Miami County Genealogy Society. Specific to Edward, on page 200, in a story about David and Martha Jane (BOYD) HILL, who it says "... Edward was born July 29, 1849 in Missouri. ... submitted by Lila Nichols Jones"

There is more information about your 3G-Grandfather David HILL's family, than about your GG-Grandfather Edward. From the same story referenced above, here's a summary of the information about this family:

David was born in Warren County, Tennessee ... according to Martha, killed in Civil War [some discussion about whether the records have the correct name, John HILL listed as killed at Battle of Parkersville in July 1861] ... Martha was born in Virginia, went to Tennessee as a child ... if I am reading this correctly David & Martha were married in 1830. Between 1837 & 1840, they settled in Missouri. After 1843 they moved to Texas, but on Oct 18, 1850, they were in Everett, Missouri when the census taker came. The story doesn't relate when they moved to Kansas. Children were: Nancy (b. 1832 in TN) m. John N. OSMAN; John W. (b.1836 in TN) m. Elizabeth J. PRIDDY; Malinda J. (b. 1837 in TN) m. Pleasant ROURKE; Permelia A. (b. 1837 in TN) m. (1) Daniel REAM (2) Jesse A. FOREMAN; Mary Elizabeth(b. 1840 in MO); Minerva Stanley (b. 1843 in MO, d. 1931) m. Peter F. JACKSON; Martha R. (b. Dec. 29, 1847 in TX) m. (1) John PRATHER (2) OWENS (3) MATTINGLY; Edward (see above); David Adam (b. Feb 6, 1853 in MO) m. Mary E. and moved to Oklahoma near brother, John W.

Specific to David, on page 212, in a story about Peter Francis and Minerva Stanley (HILL) JACKSON it says "Peter Francis JACKSON to Kansas from Schuyler County, Illinois at the age of 18 with his parents, Jesse and Clarissa Serrot JACKSON, in 1860. In the spring of 1862, he married Minerva Stanley HILL, daughter of David and Martha Jane (BOYD) HILL. ... submitted by Lila Nichols Jones"

From the same story referenced above, here's a summary of the information about this family:

Peter enlisted in Co. F, 14th Regiment Kansas Volunteers, Infantry and fought in Civil War, primarily in Arkansas ... mustered out in 1865 at Lawrence, Kansas ... died of a stroke Dec 5, 1917. Following Peter's death, Minerva lived with youngest son, Pete, and family ... died in 1931, buried New Lancaster, Kansas ...Children of Peter & Minerva were: Joseph M. (b. Jun 16, 1863, d. Mar 7, 1951) m. Harriet Ellen BILDERBACK (Mar 16, 1887); James D. (b. Aug 10, 1866) m. Lottie PASCO; Martha Jane (b. Oct 16, 1870) m. Hnery Clayton NICHOLS; Mary Josephine (died young); Annie (b. Feb 25, 1873) m. Melvin STOKER (Oct 1, 1891); Effie May (b. Jan 11, 1875) [notes moved to California at an early date]; Eva (b. Jul 18, 1877) m. Clarence WILLIAMS [reference to this be 1st marriage, but no further info]; Luella (b. Nov 26, 1879) m. William E. SIMS; Maude [notes moved to California]; Peter Felix (b. Aug 17, 1881) m. Lizzie ABNEY.
