Query: I am interested in finding information about Ellen Sullivan, born in Miami County, Oct 20, 1857 and passed away January 14, 1933 in Hillsdale, Ks. She was married to James Shannon DeWeese in 1875 in Miami County. She was my great grandmother on the DeWeese side of the family.

The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. I, published by the Miami County Historical Society and the Miami County Genealogy Society. On page 84, in a story about the Robert A. and Bonnie ANTISDEL family, it says, "Robert A. ANTISDEL was born September 29, 1923 in Corning, Iowa, the son of Harley C. and Fern ERICKSON ANTISDEL, and the grandson of Clark and Mamie MILLER ANTISDEL. He married Bonnie PECKENPAUGH June 12, 1944 in Orlando, Florida. Bonnie was born August 6, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank A. and Jessie BURKHOLDER PECKENPAUGH, and the granddaughter of Herbert and Bertha HOYER BURKHOLDER. Four children were born to this union: Richard Lynn (b. July 23, 1946, Omaha, Nebraska), Monte Rex (b. June 9, 1949, Luverne, Minnesota), Kirby Clark (b. November 24, 1950, Luverne, Minnesota) and Todd Randel (b. June 7, 1956, Garnett, Kansas). ... Robert was the eighth generation descendant of Lawrence ANTISDEL who settled in Connecticut in 1690. Query: I am researching the Powell family. Stella married Mr. McCurdy and disappeared. We didn't know what had become of her until I found a couple of obits on her relatives saying where she was living. Stella's maiden name was Powell. She was the daughter of Joseph C. and Susan B. Cunningham Powell. Both parents died in 1884 leaving eight of their ten children orphans. Stella was my great grandmother's younger sister. Page 353, in a story about Henry Albert STANLEY, it says, "Henry Albert STANLEY came to Osawatomie, Miami County, Kansas in 1869 with his family from Massachusetts. Henry was born July 13, 1853 in Attleboro, Bristol County, Massachusetts, the son of Timothy Albert and Harriet E. NEWHALL STANLEY, and the grandson of Timothy Pond and Brittania MAKEPEACE STANLEY. The STANLEY family had lived in Attleboro from the early 1700's. ... It was at the University of Lawrence (KU?) that he met Miss Sarah Jane (Jennie) BOWKER, and they were married at the home of her sister in Leavenworth May 28, 1879. Sarah Jane was born July 9, 1852 in Westfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Amos BOWKER and Lucinda HASKINS. ... Henry Albert died July 7, 1928, at Bethany Hospital in Kansas City and is buried in the Elmdale Cemetery in Osawatomie (KS). There is more information about your 3G-Grandfather David HILL's family, than about your GG-Grandfather Edward. From the same story referenced above, here's a summary of the information about this family:
David was born in Warren County, Tennessee ... according to Martha, killed in Civil War [some discussion about whether the records have the correct name, John HILL listed as killed at Battle of Parkersville in July 1861] ... Martha was born in Virginia, went to Tennessee as a child ... if I am reading this correctly David & Martha were married in 1830. Between 1837 & 1840, they settled in Missouri. After 1843 they moved to Texas, but on Oct 18, 1850, they were in Everett, Missouri when the census taker came. The story doesn't relate when they moved to Kansas. Query: World War I Draft Registration Blackwell, Susie R 16 Is my great aunt. She was married to O.G. Blackwell and she died in Osawatomie, KS 4/10/1919. I would like any info on her. I think she died while giving child birth. I know she is buried in St. Louis. Is there any more info on Susie as to if she had other children and any info on O.G.Blackwell? I think Osawatomie must of been a railroad town. My father and brother-in-law both worked there sometime in their railroad careers. Her father was Siegel Samuel Dunlap and he is buried at the same Cemetery as Susie.

Query: I am researching the following SURBER line: Samuel SURBER, born probably in 1790s in VA, moved from Pulaski Co., KY to Hendricks Co., IN around 1830; married (widow) Nancy DAVENPORT 1844 in Hendricks Co. IN (probably second marriage). Believe he was married first 1823 in Pulaksi Co. KY to Susannah ROY. Samuel died between the time of the 1860 & 1870 census. His son, Joseph Martin SURBER (1834 Hendricks Co., IN - 1902 Miami Co., KS) and wife Elizabeth SMITH (1838- 1907 Miami Co., KS). The story about John and Mary (MORGAN) LARKIN, on pages 238-239 says "John LARKIN was born in 1820 in County Down, Ireland. He married Mary MORGAN, December, 1856 near Peoria, Illinois, Knox County. p 340, in a story about James and Rosa LARKIN SHEEHAN it says, "James SHEEHAN was born August 31, 1862 in Argentine, Kansas, the son of Dennis and Anna Delaney SHEEHAN. The following is from Family Histories and Stories of Miami County, Kansas Vol. II, published by the Miami County Historical Society and the Miami County Genealogy Society. On page 90, in a story titled "Growing Up In Louisburg, 1926-1944" by Phil Thomas, History Writer, in a discussion entitled "Walk Up Main Street (Broadway)", it says "...To the south of City Hall we find a large tin building which probably always was a blacksmith shop. Bill LOWLER was the proprietor during this period. I watched this short, strong, silent man shoe many a horse and beat many a plowshare at this hot but interesting site ... ".
In a discussion entitled "Part 3 - The Eastern Front", it says "...Next we move south to the northeast corner of Block 3 where an early and long-lasting service station (Derby) was constructed. I first remember it being operated by Mr. PENNYBAKER. The PENNYBAKERs also operated a cafe (bus stop), just to the south. Eventually, Hattie EVANS operated the station for many years. The cafe was operated by several, among which were Mr. and Mrs. Homer STEGER and Mr. and Mrs. George LOWLER. ..."
From the 1878 Miami County, Kansas, Residents and Taxpayers, published by the Miami County Genealogy Society, but did not find Edward MORGAN or Barney MORGAM, but did see a B. MORGAN.
From the Atlas, Miami County, Kansas, 1878 MORGAN, B. (age 45) and M. (presumably P's spouse, age 32), in listed in the Wea and Ten Mile Township section. They owned 80 acres at WE16-16-25, which is in the Southeast part of Wea Township, 5.25 miles South of the Johnson/Miami County line and 2 miles West of the Kansas/Missouri State line.

Query: Could you tell me what information you have on a Thomas Akers. I know he is buried in a Paolo cemetary, but not sure which one. Also in Vol II of history it says Thomas Akers is on the inside front cover. Not sure if this is our Thomas or not. What info does it have. If you have an address for the cemetary in Paola that he is buried in please let me know as we are making a trip there this weekend. His wife is Margaret Allen Akers. Thomas is my husbands gg grandfather.

Response: The picture on the inside of the cover of Volume II is a small portrait of Thomas Akers, among 30 people listed as "Early Pioneers Who Came Prior to 1863". Paola cemetery is South of Paola Park Square on Silver St. to Miami St., then West on Miami St. for 7 blocks to West St. Turn South on West St. and you are at the entrance.
