Topic: Burton Boyle WILSON-Jewell Co. ca 1877

I'm wondering if anyone knows of the Burton Boyle WILSON family living in Jewell county., about 1877 for a few years, or longer?
One family history book says that he moved there in 1877 with his mother, Ann (Boyle) Wilson, and his family from McDonough Co., IL. His sister, Elizabeth McManimie and nieces, Melvina Dawson and Minerva Henderson were living nearby in Cloud Co., KS. at that time.
Is there a land record for him? A cemetery record? Is he on the 1880 census index? Would appreciate any assistance in locating him very much!

Hi, My GG-Gdfather was Jackson Calhoun BROWN b 1831. His son, William A. Brown, b 1855 in IA had a son, Marion b2/25/1892, but I don't have any other info on him, except that his siblings were Edith, Clifford, Mable and Clara. I think his mother was Mary Ella Funk. If this fits, let me know. Sharon Pack

My husband & I were in Jewell County, KS last week. The women at the courthouse were very helpful. They helped us find records and copied them for us. We even got history lessons on the county & the records. The motel was very reasonable with a wonderful restraunt next door. News traveled fast and everyone knew why we were in Mankato & Esbon. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Julia Cooper, Van Buren, AR

Is there an indexed book for marriages in Jewell County, KS. I would be interested in purchasing one if there is. If not, would these records be on microfilm?

From: Ardie Grimes mad_genealogist@yahoo.com
Date: Saturday, March 10, 2001 01:01 AM

There is an index to marriages at the probate judge's office at the Jewell County Courthouse in Mankato.

I'm not aware of any other source for marriage records but you could try writing to North Central Kansas Genealogical Society, PO Box 251 Cawker City, Kansas 67430 and see if they have anything.

Good luck, Ardie

Samuel T(homas) Manor died in Randall, KS about 22 February 1901. I don't know what cemetery he is buried in. What newspapers were in print at that time so I can obtain a copy of the death certificate--there may have been some sort of write-up on his death since he committed suicide. Where does one write in Kansas for vital records and do death certificates list this information?
