The Jennings Family of Cowley County

Frank S. Jennings Family

Frank Sherman Jennings (1852-1935), my great-grandfather, a University of Michigan Law School graduate, was a native of Ohio and lived in Winfield, Kansas during the years 1876 through 1887. He was the son of Austin Hilton Jennings and Jane Hodge Pratt, and was the first Cowley county attorney ever. Serving in that post from 1881-1884. He was then elected to the Kansas state senate, District 22, and served with distinction during the years 1885, 1886, and 1887. His law firm of Jenning & Troup was one of the top law firms in that part of Kansas. He moved to San Diego in 1887, where he had been an early land developer in the Point Loma area of San Diego and served as the Sheriff of San Diego County during the years 1895-1902. He died in his home at Point Loma at 1036 Bayfront Street, San Diego on March 19, 1935.

Franks autobiography on page 88, is his first impression of Winfield Kansas during his initial visit in 1871. Please take some time to read about Frank Jennings:
