John Jordan, a pioneer near Tyro, and one of the best known old soldiers in Caney township, passed away last Saturday.
He entered the service of his country a mere youth, enlisting in the 25th Illinois regiment. At Chickamaugua he fell with a bullet in his right leg, but recovered and went to the front. In the battles before Atlanta another rebel bullet struck him in the left side, passing through his body and cutting a kidney. From that day he was a constant sufferer, often with a running sore, and frequently for weeks and months unable to work. He was a good citizen and neighbor and respected by all who knew him. The funeral was held Sunday and McPherson Post, of which he was a member, sent a committee, consisting of comrades G. L. Banks, J. W. Scott, T. J. McKibben, T. F. Burke, W. Shaw and B. F. Fellows to represent the Post.
