Final Summons to an Old Resident Last Night
James H. Fairchild died at his home on East Magnolia street yesterday at 11 o’clock at the age of 73 years, 5 months, and 4 days. The deceased was a well known and highly respected citizen of this city for the past thirty-one years, and of the state for more than forty years. He was engaged in the livery business for a great many years at the corner of Fifth and Maple streets and only quit when the barn was burned some two years ago.
In early life he was a soldier and did valiant service for his country as a member of the Seventh Kansas regiment during the war of the rebellion.
The only known relatives of his immediate family are some grandchildren living in Texas.
The funeral services will be held at the home next Monday at 2 o’clock in the afternoon and will be under the auspices of the Grand Army post of this city. The funeral sermon will be preached by Rev. J. D. Smith of the M. E. Church of this city, after which the remains will be laid to rest in Mount Hope cemetery.
