Biographical Sketch

 

  Jacob Z. Fleming was born in Williams county, Illinois, in 1843 and died in Chanute, Kansas on May 16, 1923.  He came Kansas in 1857, being among its very early settlers. 

  Mr. Fleming served more than three years with the First Kansas Light Artillery.

  He engaged in farming near Medicine Lodge in the earlier days and lived there until 1902 when he retired and moved to Chanute with his family.

  At the time of his death Mrs. Fleming and seven children survived.  One daughter, Mrs. Mary A. Miller of Kansas City, was with her father during his fatal sickness.  The other daughters are Mrs. Elizabeth Graham and Mrs. Letha Anna Bosey, both of California.  The sons are J. L. Fleming of Big Piney, Wyo. and Roland, Martin L., and William, all in the west.
