An Old Soldier Dies.

   Israel Patnode, an early settler in this community, died at his home in this city last Thursday night from old age and a complication of ailments.  The funeral was held Sunday from the M. E. church and burial was made in the city cemetery.  Mr. Patnode was born in Canada in 1827, moving from there to Kankakee, Ill.  He served as a private in Co. E, 53 Ill., regiment in the war of the Rebellion and was captured and served thirteen months in that infamous Andersonville prison.  As stated above, he came to Kansas at an early date, soon after the war, locating here where he had since resided.  He lived a life that commanded the esteem and respect of his acquaintances.  The burial was under the auspices of the G. A. R.
