Charles Andrew Sharp, of Cherokee County, KS, b. ca. 1850. He married Trella Belle Gard in 1911 in KS. They had one son, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Sharp, in 1912. Charles died in or before 1913, and Trella Belle moved to Forsyth, MO to her parents. Jack Sharp married Rose Walsh in Forysth, MO and had my mother and her siblings. Rose Walsh died of cancer in 1947 and Jack began drinking heavily. My Mom only saw Jack once before he died in 1973. Social Security Administration sent a copy of Jack's application, which put his place of birth in Baxter Springs, KS. Before that, we found scribbled on a funeral card that his father was Charles Andrew Sharp of Kansas. This is all we have to go on right now. My mother and her siblings are all of a rather dark complexion, and we believe that Charles Andrew Sharp was either of Native American, African, or Italian heritage. We are searching for where he is buried and his heritage.

I am looking for any information on James Walter Grantham who lived, during the early 1900's, in the house at Riverton, Cherokee County, Kansas, that later became known as Spring River Inn. I think he was an uncle of Walter Raymond Michener (now deceased), husband of Edna Pauline (Tudy) Clark Michener, who lives east of Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas. Your help is appreciated. Tom gave you a great source.... they are very helpful, especially if you join the Society.... Don't hold your breath on getting any answers to questions from the Galena library. I've written letter after letter and never a reply.
If you ever have a chance to visit the Cherokee Co Genealogy Library in Columbus, KS.... do it. They have all the probate files right in house. I saw and copied checks written by my ggrandmother to one of her daughters during her illness before death... what a find.

My grandmother, Leona Stroer was born in Columbus, Cherokee County Feb. 1906. She had brothers and sisters, but the only one whose name I know is a younger sister, Elisabeth (May be spelled differently). I don't know their parent's names, but I do know that their mother spent her golden years in Missouri. I believe, the town was called Rayburn. My grandmother married Raymond A. Van Fossen, son of Charles and Emma (Hentz). They raised their children in Council Grove,KS. (Morris Co)then spent the rest of their lives in Wilsey (Morris Co). If any one has any information, please contact me. Thank you.
