I am looking for information on George William Herzog, born
circa 1842, location unknown. He died in 1881 from an
accidental gunshot wound and was buried in Baxter Springs
cemetery, Cherokee County, Kansas. He was married to
Martha Sipes in 1867 and had 4 sons born between 1867 and
1880. I am wanting any information I can find on George
William Herzog. He is my great-great grandfather through their
son Thomas Herzog.

children Charles "Clover", Van T.,Gladys, and Addie. Van T.
Cavanaugh married Della Schock (no date). They had a son
Van Jr. Della died in Coffeyville, Kansas in 1948. Van Jr. is my
father.

Looking for any information on Frederick J. Ward (b November
1868 in Illinois or Iowa) and family. He married Jennie Walker
about 1895. She was born Sept. 1879 in Ohio. They moved
from Illinois to Cherokee Co. 1899-1900. The family was listed
in the Galena, Lowell Twp. in the 1900 Census and in Baxter
Spgs., Spring Valley Twp. in the 1910 Census. The Kansas
State Census of 1905 lists them in Galena. Frederick was a
mining engineer. Their children were Hazel Etta (b. Jan 1896
IL); Horten E. (b Aug 1898 IL); Roy (b ca 1904 KS); and
Marguerite (b 3 March 1906 in Galena, KS). Hazel married 12
July to Carl C. Reed and divorced in 1921. She married shortly
thereafter to Joe M. King. They moved to Arkansas around
1925. Horton married 11 Dec 1916 to Oma Link of Ketchum,
OK. Would love to hear from any descendants.

I'm looking for my birth fathers family. His name was Glen
Edward Pearson and his parents names were Henry Owen
Pearson and Cleo Esther Murray. He had 2 sisters, Pauline and
Helen. Pauline, married Charles York and had 2 children,
Cheryl and Michael. Cheryl married a Barber? and Michael died
young and is burried in a Columbus cemetery and so is his
father, Charles. Helen married Howard Bayer. I also believe
Henry and Cleo are also burried in a Columbus Cemetery. I
would appreciate any help with this family.

I am seeking info on the George Nelson and Salisba Anne
Betzer GOLDSBERRY family that lived in Sheridan TWP around
1870. They moved to MO about 1879 and back to somewhere
in Cherokee county around 1890. The boys worked the mines
but nothing else is known about there lives and times.
Everyone left there by 1919.... when Salisba married a Robert
Borland. Any leads on info would be appreciated.

John C. BLAIR ( - 1901)
Looking for marriage of John C. Blair. He was in south east
Kansas in
late 1800's.
He lost his first wife in Elk Falls, KS (Elk Co.) in 1887. He was in
the 1900 Census in Caney KS (Montgomery Co.) With him was
a new
wife, Mary.
I am trying to find location of where he got married.. Seems
that his
terriortory was from Independence to Joplin including a lot of
Oklahoma. I believe in died in Oklahoma in
late 1901.

Obit of Sarah Ryan from "Short Creek Republican", dated May
1, 1886:
Death of Mrs. Ryan: Mrs. Sarah Ryan died at her home Sunday
evening. She was the mother of Noah, Willis, Henry, Frank,
Ottie, Nellie and Emma Ryan, Mrs. S. H. Goddard & Mary
McClure. She was 54 yrs old. The funeral was at the residence,
Monday. BURIAL AT EMPIRE CEMETERY.
Where is this cemetery? And also, where was Jackson & Sarah
Ryan's farm on "Short Creek"?

Diane
Empire was once a town however now this area is part of
Galena, Kansas which is located in the south east part of
Cherokee county not far from the MO line. The cemetery as I
recall is just north of present day Galena.
If your family owned their farm you should be able to get a
location from the Register of Deeds, Courthouse, Columbus,
KS 66725

Thank you, Tom & Gene. I will be in the Galena area about
mid-May. Hope to find both Jackson & Sarah Ryan's graves in
the Empire Cemetery. Also, will take your suggestion, Tom,
and contact the county courthouse in Columbus about the
deed info on their farm on Short creek.
Jackson & Sarah had many sons who were miners from the
1880's up to my grandfather, Clyde Ryan in the 1930's. All
remained in the Galena area for years. Willis, Henry, Otto &
Noah Ryan were 4 of Jackson's sons.
Any others out there looking for members of this Ryan line???

Ramsey in Galena,Ks.
Nathaniel N. Ramsey & Mary "Polly" Pleasant Ramsey lived in
Galena, Ks. 1890's until their deaths- Nat in 1905 & Polly in
1913. His obit says " leaves a wife & several children"- no
children mentioned in probate- no children mentioned in her
probate- property to his sister- Anna Eliza Dale, who in 1900
census had two Ramsey children living with her in Galena,
listed as niece & nephew.
Who were the parents of these children- Nat & Polly too old to
be parents.
Is there a Todd connection to Anna Dale. Someone took care
of her in last years. Who was it?

William Henry Harrison Skaggs was born
in Madison Co., MO. on 10 June 1852
he married Ellen Philomena DeGuire in Madison Co. In the
search for Harrison
I find him located in 1900 in census and
in his fathers probate as living in Cherokee
Co., KS. His brother Thomas James (or
James Thomas went to Granby, MO. with
Harrison. Thomas stayed and died there
in 1936. Harrison however went over to
Cherokee Co. KS. Would appreciate
ANY help on this line. I believe he had
a son Fred, and a daughter named Bertha.
He may have been married more than once. James Thomas
operated a store
in Granby that Harrison may have helped with or had interest
in.

Query: Looking for information/descendants of the NICHOLS family that was in Lowell Township, Cherokee County, Kansas on the 1870 census. My gr-gr-grandparents were Malichi and Sely (Harris) Nichols who were listed on that census. Nearby, there were George and Zimarne Nichols, who had just been married in October of 1869. Living with George was Ellen Ames who was Malichi and George's mother. Her husband Green Nichols and either left the family or died before 1866, as she married a Robert Ames in Newton County, Missouri that year. I have much information to share.

Query: Thomas Hardie was born in Kilsyth, Scotland in 1857. He was the son of Robert Hardie and Elizabeth Morrison. Between 1891 and 1906 he imigrated to the Indian Territory to work in the lead mines. My grandfather visited him in 1906. I am at a deadend with Thomas Hardie.
