Am looking for info on descendants of John A. Elder and Mary A. Scovell of Cherokee Co., KS.
John Elder b. 4 Jul 1830 in Seneca Co. OH, d. 7 Dec. 1891 in Columbus, Cherokee Co., KS. Mary Ann Scovell, dau. of Hurlburt Scovell and Mary Carpenter, b. 13 Jun 1836 in Delaware Co., OH, d. 21 Sep 1927 in Cherokee Co., KS.
They had the following children:
Henry H. Elder, b. 1871, d. 1954, m. Etta M. Scott
George Jeff Elder, m. Mattie Jones
Leah Elder, m. Hannibal "Hans" Scovell
Ella Elder
Emma Elder
Ethel A. Elder, m. H. E. Noble

Have no info on any descendents other than those through
Henry Elder/Etta Scott (my grandparents).

John H. Scott/Mary M. Coonrod, Cherokee Co. KS
Looking for ancestors/siblings/descendants of John H. (prob.
Hardin) Scott and Mary Mountwillow Coonrod
John H. Scott joined Co. C, 3rd Illinois Calvary, formed in Cass Co. IL and served in the Union Army. After the Civil War he settled in Pleasant Twp., Cherokee County, KS with his mother in 1866. Mother's name may have been Mary. He returned to Illinois to marry Mary Mountwillow Coonrod of Greene/Macoupin Co, IL in 1868 when she was about 17. Her father was Squire Coonrod.
John and Mary returned to Cherokee Co. KS, raised a family, and eventually settled in Columbus KS. My grandmother Etta M. Scott was one of their children.
Any info on ancestors/siblings/descendants will be greatly
appreciated.

I am looking for a marriage license in Cherokee County for Gilbert Fred or Frederick Wyrick m. Lena Margaret Boydston on September 25, 1912. Also, for Laura Belle Boydston m. William Jasper McMahan, I don't know the date, but the year is also 1912. Can someone please help me find these? The first set is my grandparents, and the second set is my gr Aunt and Uncle.
Any information would be very helpful. All I know is that they were married in Columbus, Crawford Co., KS.

RACY - STARK CONNECTION?
Hi my name is Ann Douillard. I have a news article
concerning a Stark family reunion ca 1948-1950 in
Cherokee and it lists a Clifford Racy of Pittsburg, Ks as
one of the people invited - is he one of yours? I would like
to know about the Stark connection.
Looking for information on Malissa
Blevins Shamblin. She was married to
Hugh Cowell Shamblin. They had One son
named Alvin Jack Shamblin. Hugh was born
July 15,1845-died August 30, 1890.
Malissa died when Alvin Jack was youg.
Hugh remarried latter to Sarah Ellenor
Nichols. They had two sons. Ira and
Samuel. I am interested infinding out
about Malissa. She had a sister named
Sarah.

Spicklemier Cemetery in Lola Township? I am looking for the
burial place of Gordon Spicklemier, who died in Jan., 1954. I
appreciate any assistance.

There is a FHL Film that has it indexed. I ordered it once.
If you have never been there, it is a really sad sight. It is in the corner of a field and a dead end road. Cherry Creek floods it often so the graves on the edge over looking the river are in sorry shape. My great grandma is buried there Mary Manar. Her daughter and son in law were also there, but they were moved over to McKee. The grass hasn't been mowed in a while. I do know there are some Spicklemier's buried there.
If you get Gordon's death certificate, it will tell you where he
was
buried.
