DONELSON, Samuel Tue Oct 16, 2001
I am seeking the obituary of and any information on Samuel Donelson, b. 20 May, 1824, Hawkins Co., TN, d. 23 April 1904, Sedan, Kansas.  A post on the internet states, "there is a Col. Samuel Donelson listed in Kansas history.  A Sedan, Kansas newspaper article April 29, 1904, Col. Donelson is dead as of 6:30 Saturday evening."  The article also listed a son, Walker Donelson of Pawnee, OK and a Dr. Emanuel M. Donelson of Cedar Vale, Kansas.  Samuel and his wife Jane are listed in the index of the Elgin Cemetery.  Although the article gave him the title Colonel, I couldn't find him in the Chautauqua County Civil War lists.  Samuel Donelson is a brother to my gggrandfather, Thomas Donelson (b. Hawkins Co., TN, died Titus Co., TX) and a son of James and Nancy Vaughan Donelson (Hawkins Co., TN to Scott Co., VA, to Fannin Co., TX.   I would appreciate any help, information, suggestions, etc. and will gladly share information I have.

SHAFER, Samuel & Eva Ann Mon 12 Nov 2001
I am trying to locate any one who is researching the Samuel and Eva Ann (Neusbaum) Shafer family. This family lived about 2 miles north from the Crum cemetery. Their farm was just over the line, into Elk County. My great grandmother was Ada (Shafer) Richard, a daughter of the above. She had a sister named Lydia and two brothers named Roy and Jim. There was also a Josiah Shafer linked into the family some way. I think Josiah and Mary (Metz) Shafer may have been the parents of Samuel Shafer, but I am not sure of this. If anyone has information on any of these, I surely would like to get in touch to exchange information.
