Garrett Prendeville of Ohio married Mary "Mae" Ryan of Cottonwood Falls on Sept. 19, 1905 in St. Anthony's Church, Strong City. I'm trying to find out when Garrett arrived in Kansas. He worked for the RR in Ohio, and probably worked for the A,T,& SF in Strong City. He retired from the "Katy" in Parsons, Labette County.

If anyone with some knowledge of RR history in KS could respond, many thanks.

Topic: BRAY and HANDY families (1 of 2)
From:
Date: Tuesday, July 13, 1999 04:59 PM

My great grandparents married in Matfield Green 7 July 1878.

She was Elizbeth BRAY (24Feb1854-23Dec1941), daughter of James BRAY (1828-1878) and Mary Ellen HIGGINS (ca1830-1880). The BRAY family came from Switzerland County, Indiana, to Matfield Green, Chase County, Kansas. At least one of her sisters married a BANKS from the area.

Great Grandfather was Elza "Elzy" HANDY (8Jan1842-15Aug1919) from Kentucky. He had two boys with him from a previous marriage to Martha Ann VANCE. They were Allen Woodson HANDY and James L. "Jimmy" HANDY. Woodson married in Chase County, but his wife shows up in Louisville, Kentucky, remarried. We know nothing about Jimmy's descendents.

Elzy and Elizbeth moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Elzy's brother, Hezekiah, also lived in Chase County or nearby for awhile. He moved back to Kentucky; but some of his kids stayed, including William Carl HANDY.

Info on any of the families noted here would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is there a Chase County Cemetery book in print?

Topic: TAYLOR or LOWE or ROBBS
From: Ruth Anne (GOOS) Halligan ranneh@aol.com
Date: Saturday, March 06, 1999 01:52 PM

Elizabeth Catherine Fanny ROBBS, born ~1843 in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, married Herbert TAYLOR, born ~1835 in Darmstadt, Germany (British Subject). Herbert was a doctor of medicine. They had the following known children: Harriet Fanny TAYLOR, baptized 24 Aug 1867 at Freshwater, IOW(Isle of Wight); John Stirling TAYLOR, bapt. 1 May 1869 at Freshwater, IOW; Herbert TAYLOR, bapt. 21 Dec 1870 at Freshwater, IOW; Mary TAYLOR, born ~1871, Wayne Harold TAYLOR, bapt. 21 Dec 1874 at Freshwater, IOW. Arthur Robert TAYLOR, (my grandfather) born 19 Dec 1880, in Cottonwood Falls, Chase County, Kansas, USA

May be another daughter named "Daisy". Mary may be known as Marian, or else another daughter named Marian.

Both Herbert & Elizabeth died about 1900, place and date unknown. Arthur ended up near Spokane, Washington, USA. He married May Daisy JOHNSON in 1919 and died in Spokane in 1953.

I believe the following:
John Stirling TAYLOR died as an infant.
Harriet Fanny TAYLOR married John LOWE and they lived in Kansas.
Herbert TAYLOR married Amy or Anna B. Smith and they moved to Bowden, Red Deer County, Alberta, Canada

Do you have Elizabeth Catherine Fanny ROBBS or Herbert TAYLOR in your files?

Any information appreciated. Thank you for your time!
