Norman Albert Beth, 88, died Monday, October 18, 1999, at Fort Scott Medicalodge. He was born November 5, 1910 in Randlett, Oklahoma, the son of Elizabeth Hale and Albert Oran Beth. When he was eight years old, the family moved to Bourbon County, Kansas where they made their home near Fulton, Kansas.

He married Zelda Loy on May 3, 1931, at Nevada, Missouri. During his life he had Billiard Parlors in Fort Scott, Erie, and Mound City, Kansas and Hume, Missouri. He also worked for Cessna as a welder and Pratt-Whitney Defense Plant in Kansas City during World War II. In 1954 they moved to Kentucky where he became a commercial fisherman at the Kentucky Lake near Paducah. In 1973, he and his wife returned to Erie, Kansas and finally back to Fort Scott in 1995.

Survivors include his wife Zelda, of the home, nieces and nephews including Ellis and Kathryn Beth, Fort Scott, several cousins. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charlie Beth, Chester Beth, Clifton Beth, Leroy Beth and an infant brother, two sisters, Ivy Beth and Ethel Beth. He was the last of his immediate family.

Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 22, 1999 in Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Bill Bingham, Pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Eire. Burial will be in West Liberty Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to the Temple Baptist Church of Erie, the West Liberty United Methodist Church, or the Alzheimer Association and may be sent to Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kansas 66701.
