Searching for information on Silas Turner (died in Ft. Scott in
1946) and his wife, Carrie Ada (who died in Ft. Scott in
1941). Both were buried in Centerville Cemetery with no
headstones (and not together). They had two children, Fay
Wallace, born 1889 and Nena or Lena, born 1899. They
lived in Lake City and also in Hoisington. Silas had siblings:
Joseph Glenn, born 1883 maybe in Coates (Pratt); Charles,
Orson Oliver, Nettie, Ella, Delia - The parents were Orson A.
and Cerrilda/Syrelda Jane Anderson. The Turner family
moved from Champaign County, ILL after September 1882
and were in KS by March 1883. In 1894, Silas and father
Orson went to OK to homestead in Woods. They sold in the
early 1900s and Silas went to KS and Orson, Cerilda, and
sons Orson and Joseph went to Springfield, Missouri. I need
to find the rest of the clan as well as Joseph Glenn who is
supposedly buried in Ft. Scott.

Would like to know more about these families.I would also like to be in contact with other CATT researcher's of this line. Who were John and Leah's other children? Why did Harmon live in IA for a period of time? Was John born in PA as one Cesus states or was he born in Germany as Harmon's death certificate indicates?

Topic: the kurtz family?

hi!
my name is fortune elkins. i was born at mercy hospital in ft. scott kansas in 1962. i was surfing the net the other day and was surprised to find this site. it's very interesting.
i would like to add several names to the discussion in reference to fort scott. my great-grandmother was born in cape giradeau, missouri in 1895 and moved to fort scott when she married the town pharmacist. when he died in the great flu pandemic in 1919, she sold the pharmacy, but kept a nursing home he had started. she remarried and was generally known as ruby irene kurtz. the kurtz family was once quite large in fort scott -- when i was little i was taken to the osage cemetery where there were probably 12 or 15 kurtz tombstones. they were very active in the first presbyterian church on main st. our family mostly lived on hylman st., not far from the hospital and convent.
i remember our closest neighbors were the campbells and the wallens. nancy campbell was my particular friend when i was 4. does anyone know her or where she could be reached for old times' sake? mrs. wallen, i recall, was of swedish descent and would often give large loaves of rye bread to the neighbors as a gift. are there any wallens left?
i would be pleased to hear from anyone who remembers our family, or anyone in my pre-school or kindergarten classes.
i'm now married and live in new york city, where i work making web pages on wall st.
tia,
