In 1871 the spirit of adventure hied him to the grassy plains and smiling skies of Kansas, where he located on a homestead in Smith Co. Here he lived through all the joy and sorrow of the early days, saw beautiful sunrise and sunset, heavy storm clouds, fierce drought, his evenings the native coyotes long drawn howl.

In 1883, he came to Washington Co, where he farmed for a time, then became proprietor of that then important business the livery stable, a position requiring tact, diplomacy, and business acumen. He held many
responsible positions in township and city.

Stable, quiet, and unassuming his was a strong character and he was liked and respected by all. A kind and generous friend and neighbor.

The Rev. L.E. DIXON conducted the funeral services, Monday afternoon at the M.P. Church. The text used was Psalms 34-1 "God is our refuge and strength".
