Obituary of VERNON F. "SHACK" SHACKELFORD |
Vernon F. "Shack" Shackelford, 80, Russell, died
Wednesday, August 8, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born Oct. 11, 1920, at Cambridge, the son of James Martin and Mabel Elizabeth Finney Shackelford. He owned and operated Shack's Fireside Inn at Russell for many years, retiring in 1990. Since 1965 he enjoyed his winters at Brownsville, Texas. He married Maxine Bowman in 1948 and later married Fern Dumler in 1964. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of VFW Post 6240 and American Legion Post No. 99, both of Russell. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Arthur Shackelford, and his wife Fern Shackelford, who died Nov. 6, 1997. Survivor include a step son, Bradley Hutchison, Russell; two daughters, Janet Peerman, Aurora, Neb., and Laura Faulkiner, Horseshoe Bay, Texas; two step daughters, Kathleen Fuller, Russell, and Rebecca Thouvenelle, Wichita; two brothers, Raymond Shackelford, Lafayette, La., and Robert Shackelford, Pratt; six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. The body was cremated. No formal service is planned. Memorials are suggested to American Paralysis Association/Christopher Reeve Foundation in care of Pohlman's Mortuary, 610 N. Maple St., Russell, KS 67665 or to 500 Morris Ave., Springfield NJ 07081 |
