Obituary of ELMA JANE BRAUN
Elma Jane Braun, 87, Baldwin City, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at the Baldwin Care Center.

She was born August 17, 1913, at Sugar City, Colorado, the daughter of John and Dollie Osborne Foos. She grew up in the Ness County area near Ness City and Bazine and attended Ness City schools. She helped raise her younger brothers and sisters when she was a young woman.

On April 17, 1934, she was united in marriage to Fred Braun at Ness City. They raised four children together and were later divorced.

Mrs. Braun resided in Ness County until moving to Lane County near Dighton in the mid 1940's. She later moved back to Ness County near Ransom before moving to Russell in 1960. She remained in Russell until moving to Wichita and residing there briefly before moving to Baldwin City over two years ago.

During the years Mrs. Braun had worked in various restaurants, as a hospital housekeeper, and had cared for others in their own homes in addition to being a homemaker.

She was raised in the Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening in earlier years and also liked to quilt and needlepoint.

She is survived by: two sons, Gerald Braun, Harrison, Arkansas, and Leonard Braun, Milo, Missouri; two daughters, Mary Platt, Ottawa, and Margaret Ann Cornell, Salina; two brothers, John Foos, Great Bend, and Ed Foos, Portland, Oregon; three sisters, Martha Shaw, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Josephine Petsch, Colorado, and Lynn Foos, Dallas, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Braun was preceded in death by: her parents, and several brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa, with Fr. Steve Beseau officiating.

Mrs. Braun will lie in state after 9 a.m. Friday, July 27, at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, Ottawa, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Baldwin Care Center and may be sent to the funeral home at P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
