Obituary of CLYDE M. SHATTUCK

CLYDE M. SHATTUCK
A large crowd of relatives, neighbors and friends paid their last tribute to Clyde M. Shattuck Sunday when they gathered at the East Mount Zion Church at 2 o'clock for his funeral services. The rites were conducted by the Rev. K. Anderson of LaCygne, assisted by music furnished from a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Potter and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Wilgus who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and "Rock of Ages" with Mrs. Ralph Ross at the piano. A solo "Does Jesus Care," was sung by Lee Mangold.

Clyde M. Shattuck was born on his father's homestead 3 1/2 miles east of Boicourt, Kansas on April 12, 1876. He was the youngest son of a family of four sons and five daughters. Three brothers and two sisters having preceded him in death.

On December 16, 1900 he was united in marriage to Lena Thompson and to this union two children were born, Edna Reinke of near LaCygne and William of Los Angeles. His wife died on February 14, 1913 and on February 19, 1916 he married Willetta Upham who passed away on January 4, 1939. April 10, 1940 he was married to Clio McDonald who survives him and has tenderly cared for him through his long illness.

He is also survived by one granddaughter, Melba Reinke and three sisters, Mrs. J.P. Frisbie of Pleasanton, Kansas; Mrs. E.L. Calvin of LaCygne, and Mrs. J.D. Calvin of Boicourt, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

With the exception of a short while in Colorado, he has spent his entire life in this vicinity. He was taken to the Butler Memorial Hospital October 20th and died at that place on October 23, 1944 at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 11 days.

Thus another member from a pioneer family has passed to his reward.

The following nephews were pallbearers: Rees Shattuck, Grant Shattuck, Glenn Frisbie, Wilbur Frisbie, Arthur Frisbie and Lee Calvin. Interment was in East Mount Zion cemetery.
