Obituary of BOB GARRATT

BOB GARRATT DEAD

On last Friday afternoon the people of this city were shocked to learn of the death of Bob Garratt which occurred about 2 o'clock that day.

Though Mr. Garratt had been ill for a long time, his death was a surprise, as his many friends hoped, and on account of his improved health a few weeks ago were reasonably certain of his recovery. But this was not to be and the terrible hand of death was laid on the boy, just budding into manhood, with as firm a grasp as would clutch the tottering and feeble old person.

There is hardly a person in this city who is old enough to reason, but
was acquainted with Bob and will miss his happy countenance, cheerful manner and kind heart. And all will bow in sorrow when they think of Bob and realize that he is gone, never to return.

The deceased was in his twenty-first year and would have reached his majority in November next. He was a jolly, good natured young man who brought sunshine with him wherever he went. Kindness seemed to be his watchword and he was ever ready to give a helping hand to those in need and no accommodation was asked that he did not cheerfully give, if it were within his power.

The funeral occurred on Saturday morning and a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the last sad rites of the deceased and followed the remains to the last resting place.

Rev. Koepsel of the Methodist Church preached an eloquent funeral sermon portraying the faultless life of Bob Garratt. The choir of the church were present at the grave and added to the ceremony by beautiful song.

The father and other relatives of Bob Garratt have the sincere sympathy of the entire community who fell that another fair flower has been plucked from its garden by the iron hand of death.

Among those present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Watson and Mrs. Gentle of Mound City, the latter lady having had Bob as one of her household, when a child, and after the death of his mother.
