Obituary of ALDEN H. SHATTUCK

Alden H. Shattuck, second son of William and Mary Shattuck, was born on the homestead three and one-half miles northeast of Trading Post, Kansas, on April 13, 1868; here he grew to manhood. He received his early education in his home school; afterwards he attended Normal school at Fort Scott, Kansas.

Later he attended business college at Salina; from there he went to a
business school in Buffalo, New York, from which institution he graduated in 1897. After graduation he went to Colorado, where he resided till he enlisted in the Spanish American War, serving with the 32nd U.S. Volunteers for two years in the Philippine Islands. After his discharge, he returned to Colorado, where he lived until the spring of 1920, when on account of failing health, he returned to his mother's home in Pleasanton. His health continued to fail, till the end came. He passed away at the Mercy hospital in Fort Scott on March 5, 1928, at the age of 59 years 10 months and 23 days.

Alden was the second child of nine children, four sons and five daughters. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

There are left to mourn his loss, his aged mother, of Pleasanton; two brothers, Grant, of Lead, South Dakota, and Clyde, of Boicourt, Kansas; and three sisters, Mrs. J.P. Frisbie, Pleasanton, Mrs. E.L. Calvin, Boicourt, and Mrs. J.D. Calvin, Boicourt. Besides these there remain a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. church in Pleasanton Wednesday afternoon, interment in Sway back cemetery.
