Obituary of ELIZABETH ESTELLA LAKE DONNELLEY

Life of Mrs. E. E. Donnelley

Mrs E. E. Donnelley, wife of C. E. [sic] Donnelley, died at 7:35 Sunday morning, November 23, 1924, at her home, 1006 West Randolph, after an
illness of several weeks. Doctors first pronounced her ailment neuritis but later symptoms of cancer of the stomach developed.

Elizabeth Estella Lake was born near Springfield, Illinois, February 11, 1861. Here she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to Joseph
Allen Maddox, of Springfield, Illinois. To this union were born six children.

With her family she moved to Kansas and later homesteaded a place in Oklahoma, 24 miles northwest of Enid, which she owned at the time of her death.

After two years in Oklahoma, her husband died leaving her to care for her family alone. This she did, courageously facing the problems of a pioneer life.

January 7, 1900 she was united in marriage to Charles F. Donnelley. To this union was born one son.

She has lived in Lahoma, Helena and came to Enid in 1918.

She was saved in a cottage prayer meeting, held in her home by the ladies of the M. E. church of Kingman, Kansas, in 1892, united with the M. E. Church and lived a consistent Christian life ever since.

She leaves her husband, C. F. Donnelley, six children, three [sic] sisters, one brother, twenty-three grand children, and six great grand children to mourn her loss, one infant daughter and one grandson and granddaughter having preceded her. The sons and daughters are Mrs. David Hull, Benton Harbor, Mich.; Mrs. John Tyner, Canal Point, Florida; Mrs. Bert Wright, Wheaton, Illinois; Mrs. Charles Ramsey, 808 W. Maple, Enid; Archie Maddox, Meno, Oklahoma; and Herndon F. Donnelley, 515 South Monroe, Enid.

Submitter's note: Predeceased by grandson Wilbur Ramsey and granddaughter Bessie Tyner Holloway. Survived by one brother, George
Arthur Lake; and two sisters, Nellie Lake Maddux and Harriet Evelyn Lake Gardner. My information shows she was predeceased by Alice Lake Jones,
although I do not have proof of her death date. I am a descendant of Elizabeth Lake and her first husband, Allen Maddox.
